Buying a Home With a Septic System

Questions to ask in Oklahoma.

Ask for the system type (conventional, aerobic, lagoon), age, location and pumping records.
Ask whether DEQ records exist for the installation; your local DEQ office can help.
Get a septic inspection by a qualified inspector as part of your purchase contingencies — a general home inspection doesn't cover it.
For aerobic systems, confirm whether a maintenance contract is in place and that the alarm, aerator and spray heads work.
Ask about planned additions (pools, buildings, driveways) — setbacks from the system and wells apply.
